Because your fridge has a sense of style, too

In honor of Fashion Week, we’re bringing you fashionable products for the home, and it doesn’t get more adorable than these gemstone magnets.
Long gone are the days of those tacky souvenir magnets with your name misspelled, magnets from the trinket shops at the shore, and those God forsaken magnets in the shapes of every fruit and vegetable imaginable.

We’re crazy for the gemstone look — we’ve loved both gemstone serving trays and coasters in the past, and the idea of these bejeweled stones scattered on a refrigerator or any magnetic surface in your home is an immediate statement.

What’s even better is that no two sets are alike and not only are they great as magnets, but they make for great fillers for table centerpieces and décor. Each set ($36) includes eight magnets; one each of: amethyst, pyrite, quartz, geode, and four colors of agate slices. Also available? A mineral collection — like a little piece of history in your kitchen!

Fibrous foods

You've probably been told that a diet high in fiber is healthy for you, but if you give your sink and garbage disposal the same kind of diet, it will kill them in no time. Fibrous foods like celery, corn husks, and asparagus wreck your sink. You know when you're eating a crisp piece of celery (maybe slathered with peanut butter to bring back lunchbox memories) and the little stringy bits get caught in your throat? Well, those same strings get caught around your garbage disposal's blades, and if you frequently put celery or other fibrous foods down your sink, those strands will cause what can only be described as a food hairball.

Belgian Endive

These tight, compact heads are packed with flavor and crunch. While a popular way to eat endive is slowly and carefully braised to caramelized brown perfection, endive also adds a solid crunch to any salad, whether on its own or mixed with other greens. It tends to have a bit of a bitter edge, so know your audience or use them sparingly with other salad greens.

Since most Belgian endive is now grown indoors (it used to be grown buried in sand to keep the leaves white), it's a great option come dead of winter when you're craving that satisfying fresh-leaf crunch.

Safari Animal Magnets

I like finding ways to bring the movie home with us, and I thought these Safari Animal Magnets were just perfect. They’re an easy way to bring the safari animals from the film right to your refrigerator door.

I wanted all the Safari Animal Magnets to be similar in the way they looked and around the same size, so instead of raiding the boys toys, I picked up a 40-pack of safari animals from Walmart.

The project could have been extremely inexpensive if I would have used the animals we had at home, but with everything I had to purchase, it still only cost about $15!

If you want to purchase all your supplies locally, rather than online, I purchased the animals at Walmart, the magnets at Lowe’s, and the E6000 at Target (but this is probably available at Walmart and/or Lowe’s, too).

Because the magnets are thick, the Safari Animal Magnets will stick away from the refrigerator some. Here is how mine look from the side.

But since we usually have a refrigerator filled with artwork from our children, we won’t be able to notice that they stick out some.

40 Best Gifts for Tweens This Holiday 2019 Season

Shop all the fun stuff (burrito blankets!) plus cool science-driven finds.

The thing about tweens is that they&rsquore literally in between major life eras, a mercurial amalgam of child and young adult. During the holidays, that means they can be tricky to shop for. &ldquoBaby-ish&rdquo stuff is mostly behind them (with the exception of the stuffed animal they still need at bedtime). But a lot of teenage stuff is still too mature. The solution: Zeroing in on the Venn Diagram overlap zone with shopping, which can be time consuming and frankly stressful. Lucky for you, we&rsquove already started the vetting process and are confident the ideas below contain picks that will delight the in-betweener in your life&mdashleaving you with the energy to savor those precious moments while they&rsquore technically still kiddos.

If your tween has graduated from their scooter and is ready for something new to test their balance, this 27&rdquo penny skateboard should do the trick. Plus is has a cool design on the bottom that&rsquoll impress their buds&mdashwhich means you get extra parent present points.

&ldquoOMG cutttteeee&rdquo &mdashwhat all your tween's friends are going to say when they see this photo display situation hanging in her bedroom. (Also file under: preferable to her sticking tape to the walls.)

Swap screen time for start-gazing time with this telescope created with kids in mind. The high-powered lens is easy to focus in on constellations and even clearly glimpse the surface of the moon. Did we mention your kid&rsquos friends are going to be super impressed by your present prowess?

We&rsquore not encouraging pyromania: The point of this journal, which contains writing prompts that meant to help your kid tap into their inner thoughts and experiences, is that it&rsquos a analog safe space for them to let it all out.

Organized in a beautiful wood box, this mega kit comes with everything your tween needs to express their creative self on paper or canvas. James Corden&rsquos &ldquoCarpool Karaoke&rdquo might air after their bedtimes but that doesn&rsquot mean your tween can&rsquot get in on the action. It also comes with a rechargeable, long-lasting battery&mdashideal for long ballads.

Teach a tween how to make their own lip balm and they may still lose it but they&rsquoll be really proud of themselves in the meantime. This kit, which uses all-natural ingredients, is also a great way to introduce applied chemistry into their everyday thinking it also comes with different molds, stickers, and enough ingredients to make at least six balms.

Yes, kids still stick pictures on the insides of their lockers&mdashthat is, when they have them printed out, which your tween will once they get going with this camera. It&rsquos like instant gratification without Instagram. Don&rsquot forget to include lots of film in her stocking!

By now, they probably get some kind of allowance&mdashand that means they&rsquoll need somewhere safe to put it. This wallet, which can be personalized with a name and icon, is a perfect fit!
